Grammy Award winner and country western entertainer, Lee Greenwood, has been a strong supporter of the troops and American ideals throughout his career . . . which is best exemplified by his 1985 CMA Song of the Year, "God Bless The USA", which he also wrote and scored.
In fact, Lee Greenwood's mega signature hit, "God Bless The USA", is considered by many as a modern day unofficial anthem that identifies with how most Americans feel about the USA and Her brave troops. And the following words from this great patriotic song best expresses Greenwood's love of country and feelings for the troops… "I'd thank my lucky stars,
to be livin here today.
'Cause the flag still stands for freedom,
and they can't take that away.
And I'm proud to be an American,
where at least I know I'm free.

God bless the USA." Lee Greenwood's patriotic efforts intensified and have remain strong since 1991 when American troops first fought in Iraq during Desert Storm. He has repeatedly performed for the troops through USO and other charity tours that have taken him to Iraq again (Operation Iraqi Freedom) and Afghanistan. Lee has also been there for the troops at home and other countries . . . and will continue to support and entertain them wherever their boots touch the ground. (Lee has often played two and sometimes three shows per day for the troops.)
This humanitarian also donates his time to many other noble efforts including performing at Memorial Day, Fourth of July, and Veteran's Day ceremonies . . . with his performance at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C. being a special memory.
And while
Lee Greenwood has received many great honors in his entertainment
career, including Male Vocalist of the Year by the Country Music
Association (CMA) and the Academy of Country Music (ACM), the most
gratifying on stage recognition for him . . . is hearing and seeing
the response from the valiant, honorable troops of the United
States of America.
