War's Innocent

country as flag - small
Drinking off rain puddles of mud,
Eating from pillaged shelves of crud,
They hide from the rigors of war
Seeing firsthand the blood and the horror.

They don’t understand the reason,
Nor the tragedies done unto men,
Who have taken all they know well
And left their city an empty shell.

Dying by famine and disease,
They cry dried up tears of unease.
Hoping that God will make alright
What was taken in the dark night.

They pray for their Lord’s forgiveness,
Unsure why they’re being punished like this.
Just want to see an end to the horror,
They are the sad children of war.
