War and Tragedy

War & Deathcountry as flag - small
Fear and sweat on mind and skin,
A rapid beating heart,
Disappear like morning dew,
As once the battle starts.

Thoughts and bullets both are fired
Through air and thalamus.
They die together when they meet,
And spirit leaves the dust.

Men and courage do abound
On every battlefield.
Neither one is strong enough
To withstand shards of steel.

Prayer and mortars angle up,
Into a smoke-filled sky.
Different aims, like night and day,
That one may live, one die.

Emotions and ships float along,
Troubles start them sinking.
And though surrounded all around,
There’s not one drop for drinking.

Grenades and tempers will explode
After fuses burn.
They’ve no concern for damage done
And do not lessons learn.

Fire and fury uncontrolled
Destroy unconsciously.
No guilt or feelings of regret
For cinders that they leave.

War and death go hand-in-hand,
‘Mid battle scenes so gory.
But time and nature heal the scars,
And turns it into glory.
