War

country as flag - small

The hills are stained with the blood of men,
Where lay the wounded soul.
I’m here today to face my fears;
A tale so few have told.

The frontline piles the bodies high,
The days of peace are gone.
This war is for the broken home.
So tear my limbs away.

Death stands upon the mountain top;
To see his will exalt.
The evil way of hate is near;
Here comes the full assault.

A bloody cry, a lonely horse
Whose sword will be my end?
“Take arms my friend, prepare for death,
This battle now begins.”

My hands go stiff in fear of death;
I do not want to die.
So long ago I vowed to fight,
And told my life goodbye.

My mind is saying “run and hide”.
My heart is saying “stay”.
I’m torn between my land and love.
They’ll send me to my grave.

My friends will give their lives for me;
Their strength is all I need.
I’ll stay and fight this war for them;
This is my destiny.

The mass of steel and flesh comes close,
So close I see their eyes.
I thrust my sword into the air,
I know I will not die.
