Mama's Little Man

Watched a little boy
Just the other day
Sitting on the front steps
Of an old and forgotten home

He’s too young to understand
That God has a master plan
But for now
He’ll be Mama’s little man

Face stained and
Eyes all red
He looked up
To God himself

"He didn't teach me it all!
Like how to throw a baseball
Or how to hold Mama
When she's sad,"

He’s too young to understand
That God has a master plan
But for now
He’ll be Mama’s little man

"He didn’t show me how
To eat all nicely like he did
Or teach me to
Ride my brand new bike

He didn’t take me
To go fishin’
Like he said he would
Or to the new ice cream shop.”

He’s too young to understand
That God has a master plan
But for now
He’ll be Mama’s little man

Tears rolled down his nose and on the steps
But when his Mama came out
He brushed his eyes and cheeks
Not wanting to let her see that he had cried.

He’s too young to understand
That God has a master plan
But for now
He’ll be Mama’s little man
