Dragging the
War Behind Him |
 |
|
Impulsive and emotional,
with ways sometimes inept,
dragging home the warrior,
he’s a veteran out of step
with others on life’s walk,
erecting walls at times,
striking back in protest
to insult-loaded rhymes
persistent in their quest
to shoot a brother down,
crosshairs on a heart
struggling not to drown
in a cesspool of opinions
worth their weight in dung,
repugnant to old eyes
sleepless, red and wrung,
seeing not the weapon
for the eyes behind the scope
that left the war behind;
one can only hope. |
