| When A Fellow Soldier Dies |
|
| Today I lost a brother soldier A noise, some heat and flame On my knees I searched for him But found not a thing.
Tears and emotions that drain a man That rips apart his heart Our other brothers gather round No one wants to be apart.
No comfort to be had No joy left in life No one to complain to The pain cuts like a knife.
My brother’s blood covers me And I wipe it off with my shirt And give the shirt to the CO To be buried in the dirt.
I look at my other brothers And I see the change in their eyes No longer kids These are men who fight and die.
As I stand beside the empty box Going home to his family I pray God in Heaven gives them peace Because I will never have any.
Time heals all wounds they say But this I don’t believe The only comfort I receive Is from the One who watches over me.-------- Dear God:
Bless our honored dead and hold them to your breast. Their pain and sorrow are over as they were laid to rest. Lord bless the families they have left behind. Comfort them until they meet, someplace in the sky. | By Steven J. Newton Copyright 2004 http://steven.newton1.home.att.net/ |
