Still There

After the glory days have gone by,
you are still there.

You have left your family
and friends, are living
in a world of chaos.
We must remember
after the bombs have been dropped,
after the greatest battles fought,
you are still there.

We must never forget.
We must ever keep you
in our prayers and in our hearts.
Because, after the parades
have been marched,
after the joyful reunions embraced,
you are still there.

You are still fighting
to keep our country free.
And, you are all alone
in a country
that wants you to leave.
So, after the glory days
have gone by,
when it seems that
all the world has forgotten you,

This country must never forget
that you are still there.
