| The Soldier | |
| He carries his fear with honor To serve and protect, he swears Through the mud the blood and the gore Never ever shedding a tear.
Thinking always about his mother His father, friends and last kiss About those simple little things He thought he would never miss.
Death trails him every step of the way Watching every move that he makes Waiting for a chance to swoop in And take the brave soldier away.
A buddy is dead from a distant house He watched as he was shot in the head How does the soldier reconcile that In a way that can keep him whole.
Where does he go from here What can he hope to learn An awful mark we laid upon him To kill or be killed or be damned.
A different dream this soldier would see If never a soldier there would be. | By Raymond Blais Copyright 2006 Listed 10/16/2006 http://members.cox.net/rblais4/main |
