Say A Prayer |
|
| I walk through the stores Mindless of the hustle Of shoppers fighting-- Wanting the best buy.
I walk through the grocers Watching the selection Of shoppers picking-- Wanting the best meal.
But my heart is weighted With the stone of concern For those who will not gather At a dinner table surrounded By an intimate affair Of family and friends.
Instead of the warm glow of the season They will face the heat of the desert. Instead of the banter of friendly conversation They will be greeted by a moment of silence To remember the loss of a comrade A day or two ago. Instead of serving platters placed before them They'll wait in long mess hall serving lines.
Guilt and sadness settle over my holiday Yet the greatest thing I can do Is to thank God for the men and women Who have been called to serve The land of the red, white, and blue. Whose friend will be that weapon And whose family will be those soldiers Who also fight for the red, white, and blue.
So say a prayer for little Johnnie and Sue Who gather at a dinner table Missing a parent or two. So say a prayer for Sergeant Michael Who stands on lookout tonight Protecting our freedom with all his might.
Say a prayer of thanks That somewhere in this world Is a soldier whose holiday Is for me and you! | By Odessa Maxwell Copyright 2006 http://www.myspace.com/OMaxwell Listed 12/11/2006 |
