The Same Boxcountry as flag - small
As the mail man stopped by today
He came to the door in his usual way
He told me that he had there for me
A package labeled special delivery

I stood in awe as he handed to me
A box marked handle carefully
As I looked it over but could not see
The name of the return addressee

So I placed it down on the table to find
The tape sealing it had began to unwind
As I looked in wonder as I pulled at it
And the box I than spread open a bit

To my surprise an empty box sat there
Bewildered I sat down in my chair
There was no paper packing nor styro-foam
The inside just read I want to come home

Then I realized this empty box had been
One of many that I had sent to him
Filled with news of home for him to read
And with other things I thought he’d need

I sat there wondering what now to do
Asking “ son what is it I can send you”
Then as I thought I picked up my pen
And on the inside of that box I then began

To tell him how this empty box represents
The emptiness of life and how it is spent
How I want him home too and soon he will be
Signed, your father, who misses you desperately
