I Pray The Lord Our Soldiers Stay Safecountry as flag - small
Young man so many miles away from home
Writes a letter to the child that he loves
He starts by saying hello my little angel
Then tells how he is so sorry he has to be so far away
How he misses reading those bedtime stories
Feeling his head on his shoulder as he holds him tight
Says he is having mommy read you this letter
In hopes you will understand why I can’t be home with you
You see your Daddy is an American soldier
Who had a duty to answer when he heard freedom’s call
You see there was this day in September
When bad men hurt America they made a lot of children cry
So your daddy joined some other soldiers in going overseas
To fight those bad men to make sure they no longer hurt anyone
I’m not sure how soon I can come home
So please do me a favor until I can comeback
Be good for your mommy when she tells you things to do
Give hear a little kiss if you see her cry like she does for you
Wrap your arms around give her a big hug for me
I will do my best to hurry home and hold you once again
Just as soon as the job I have to do is done
He closes the letter saying I love and miss you
So as the mother tucks the child into bed that night
Right after she makes sure to hug and hold him tight
The mother and the child whisper a bedtime prayer

As I lay me down to sleep
I pray the lord our soldiers stay safe
For they must fight to keep the world free
Protecting the loves ones of you and me.
