Goodnight; Rest Well

The nights in camp were the worst of all
Within the quiet, peaceful calm
Masking this world's daytime horrors,
The battle from which I had withdrawn.

On quiet nights, I can still hear them,
All their screaming and their cries,
Boys not even begun in life,
Yet by enemy fire they died.
