| A young man from the Ozark Mountains
Went down to the sea one day.
He wasn’t there to watch the waves,
He wasn’t there to play.
While his friends went off to college
He swore to his “Uncle Sam”.
That like his “father” John Paul Jones,
Bravely he would stand.
A young man up in “Big Sky country”
And his brother twin.
Leave the cattle and the mountains
Where they always win.
One goes to the “flat-top” Ranger
And one to Subic Bay.
One sees sand and jungle-green
One sees water and waves.
And its,
People like this who make us,
The land of the free.
People like this who guard us,
From enemies.
Sailors and Soldiers, Airmen,
“Guardies” and Marines.
People like this who fight,
For Liberty.
A little boy and his younger brother
In the South China Sea.
Ride a boat for days and hours
Wanting to be free.
Refugees who immigrated
To the USA.
Army “Rot-C” graduates
Proudly serving today.
A young girl from the “Show-Me state”,
Only eighteen years.
Decided she would join the Navy,
Despite her grandma’s fears.
She wanted more from life than babies,
And something nine to five.
She added her name to the patriot’s list,
Defending the Stars and Stripes.
And its,
People like this who make us,
The land of the free.
People like this who guard us,
From enemies.
Sailors and Soldiers, Airmen,
“Guardies” and Marines.
People like this who fight,
For Liberty.
Some old men down at the VFW
Think of days gone by.
When they ruled the battlefields,
The oceans and the skies.
The flag is lowered now to honor
All of those who died.
Twenty-four notes softly play
As tears fill their eyes.
And its,
People like this who make us,
The land of the free.
People like this who guard us,
From enemies.
Sailors and Soldiers, Airmen,
“Guardies” and Marines.
People like this who die,
