Baghdadcountry as flag - small
On a dusty road
miles from home.
In a city
filled with hate
and yet, I am not alone.
Reaching out
and feeling the pain
as I give what I can
to those in need.
Touching a cheek
to dry a tear
and fighting the hurts
that makes my heart bleed.
I wish for words
that would let peace
learn to be free.
Looking to find in each other
the same light
we all need to see.
Chasing the hate
while trying to hold on
to what is real.
I must stand and fight
the hater
that hides in the dark
to keep the life
that it steals.
For hope to have hero's
we must show a light.
Freedom will shine through the darkness
like the stars in the sky
at night.
