The Declaration's Signers

Many noble countrymen
Defended liberty,
And laid their lives upon the line
That others might be free.

They signed the Declaration,
And pledged allegiance to
This new found land, America,
A noble thing to do.

They suffered dearly for it,
But stood, the nation's best,
And laid the great foundation,
To free the long oppressed.

Their prayers were heard in heaven,
Their acts were seen on earth,
Their efforts brought about the cause
Of this new nation's birth.

No country yet had overcome
Such odds as stood before,
And none had come off victor,
None knew what was in store.

But bravely they went forward,
And claimed the Hand of God,
To help them win the battle
For this choice fertile sod.

There stands in history's pages,
A record, bright and true,
Of heroes and of patriots,
Who truly did pursue

The noble cause of freedom,
And life and liberty,
So you and I, God's children,
Could one day be born free.
