For they are the reasons
why there is a Land of the Free
and what She has come to be
that is looked upon in awe, respect, and even envy
including those who were once Her enemy.

They are our great leaders who met the test
of trying times involving social ills, economic duress,
conflicts abroad, national tragedies, and civil unrest,
always thinking of country first
even if it meant being politically cursed.

They are our brave ones who answered the call,
protecting America in more than one bloody war brawl
with many sadly taking a hero's ultimate fall,
never again being able to stand proudly tall
for what their noble sacrifice did for us all.

They are each of us who love the USA
and go about each day
willing to do what must be done
to protect what is second to none,
insuring the same for generations to come.
