| The Church and State Debate |

| My love for our beautiful country is so very deep,
Her goodness and bounties cause my heart to leap.
Like millions of other fine people I am a native son,
It is within Americas loins my earthly life was begun.
So much of the internal happiness that is apart of me,
Is a derivative of being blessed to live my life free.
While growing from a small boy into being a dad,
I have seen all sides of freedom both good and bad.
As the scores of seasons of my life passes away,
I’ve seen the ebbs and tides of freedom bear sway.
We have deigned rights to those with different skin,
While our constitution declared freedom for all men.
Prejudice and hate pecked at our rights like a vulture.
Fervent protest was needed to change our culture,
Each generation is faced with unique issues to surmount,
Opinions vary as to the right beyond my ability to count.
The acknowledgement of God is the big issue of the day.
It seems corrupt men want recognition of him to go away.
They do not understand that faith in GOD gives us might,
It is his guiding force that helps our nation, choose the right.
Our National leaders try to strike recognition of God from sight,
They grope in the dark refusing to see he is the source of the light.
They fervently argue that any credit given to him is not proper,
Trying to irradiate his name from currency both paper and copper.
They refuse Boy Scouts use of public land because they stand for truth,
They are unable to see the corrupting affect it’s having on our youth.
Today I declare to all sons and daughters of this great land,
Do not believe in the falsehoods of those who take this stand.
God’s providential hand is the chief source of our blessings and bounty,
Our faith and devotion to him is prevalent in almost every city and county.
It is God that inspired our forefather too design this republic,
God also inspired them to give the power of a vote to the public.
We can not forget GOD is and will always be freedoms source,
If we forget him it can, and will, forever alter our national course.
So today I pray God will bless America because we are good,
And I pray that recognition of his importance will be as it should. | Von E. Weeks
