Me and John

Performed and Written by Robert Winters
Copyright 1986

"I could never adequately express my Thanks and Appreciation for those that bravely stepped forward and endured the task at hand. I joined the Army in 1974 and spent my time at Fort Knox with many of the returning Vietnam War Veterans. They were a Maverick bunch (and still are) that were biding their time and waiting for freedom. This song is about my, then, neighbor, John Russell in Madison Ohio. John did spend much time in Vietnam and saw the horrors of the event that took many precious lives. I am grateful to all those who serve. I have appreciation for every patriot, for I am one." Robert Winters - April 13, 2008

Lyrics

We sat upon a hill, for what seemed like forever
More than a couple times, I thought that we were gone
We were fighting for Liberty
We were spreading Democracy
We were certain the free world
Had forgotten Me and John

We walked thought miles and miles, of total devastation
Not seeing faces, only counting up the score
Not giving up our pride
Praying God's on our side
Fighting and never really knowing, just what for

Chorus
And though the years have passed
We still recall the faces
Sleeping just long enough
To watch them fall again
Meeting out Brother in such unforgiving places
The Faithful and the Brave, Patriotisms slaves
We are the Loyal Brotherhood of Vietnam

We sat upon a hill for what seemed like forever
More than a couple times, I thought that we were gone
In leaving we stood and cried
For part of us all had died
But know one will ever, know the truth like Me and John
Know one will ever know the truth like Me and John
