Troy L. Gilbert
Recipient of the "Cross" - 2nd Highest Military Honor

Major Troy L. Gilbert (34) was the pilot of an Air Force F-16C engaged in support of coalition ground combat operations that crashed approximately 20 miles northwest of Baghdad November 27, 2006. Gilbert was assigned to the 309th Fighter Squadron, Luke Air Force Base, Arizona, and was deployed to the 332nd Expeditionary Wing, Balad Air Force Base, Iraq.

Major Troy L. Gilbert was awarded posthumously the Distinguished Flying Cross with Valor for his heroic actions. Major Gilbert's wife received it on December 11, 2006 during his funeral with full honors at Arlington Cemetery.
