'Raider' Brigade Remembers Cpl. Andrew Charles Wilfahrt

Cpl. Andrew Charles Wilfahrt, a 31-year-old native of Rosemount, Minn., was killed Feb. 27 in Kandahar City, when his squad struck an improvised explosive device while conducting a combat foot patrol.

KANDAHAR, Afghanistan (Mar. 6, 2011) – 'Raider' Brigade
mourns the loss of one of our own, who was killed Feb. 27, in
Kandahar City, when his squad struck an improvised explosive device
while conducting a combat foot patrol.

Wilfahrt, a 31-year-old native of Rosemount, Minn., was assigned to
552nd Military Police Company, 504th Military Police Battalion,
currently attached to 1st Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division
while deployed.
When not deployed, the 552nd MP Company is
assigned to the 728th Military Police Battalion, 8th Military Police
Brigade, 8th Theater Sustainment Command at Schofield Barracks,
Hawaii.
“Wilfahrt was a model soldier and it was an honor to
call him a member of the team,” said Staff Sgt. Jason Paredes,
military police officer assigned to 552nd Military Police Company,
504th Military Police Battalion, currently attached to 1st Brigade
Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division. “He would drop anything he was
doing to help another soldier.”
Wilfahrt enlisted in the Army
as a military police officer on Jan. 29, 2009. He attended One
Station Unit Training at Fort Leonard Wood, Miss., and upon
completion of his training, reported to the 552nd MP Company, 728th
MP Bn., 8th MP BDE, 8th TSC, at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii.

“Andrew was one of the most intelligent individuals I have ever met,”
said 1st Lt. Brandon Lamar, platoon leader, assigned to 552nd Military
Police Company, 504th Military Police Battalion, currently attached to
1st Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division. “Every conversation with
him was like a lesson in life; he was always eager to learn and was
truly an iconic soldier.”
“Andrew was the kind of soldier that
every leader hopes to have on his team,” said Sgt. 1st Class Daniel
Staniewicz, platoon sergeant, assigned to 552nd Military Police Company,
504th Military Police Battalion, currently attached to 1st Brigade
Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division. “He had a perfect ‘300’ Army
Physical Fitness Test score; he was an outstanding shot with his rifle,
and even took on the additional duty of being the company’s guide-on
bearer.”
“Wilfahrt was a phenomenal soldier and incredibly
intelligent; even if you were well educated, he was smart enough to make
you feel a little dull,” said Staniewicz.
“Andrew’s life
experiences definitely bled through in translation to the kind of
soldier he was,” said Staniewicz. “His loss will be felt my more than
just his squad. It will be felt by his platoon, his company and the
entire Army.”
Wilfahrt is survived by his father, Jeffery John
Wilfahrt, and his mother, Lori Jean Reinhart Wilfahrt.
A memorial
in Cpl. Andrew Charles Wilfahrt’s honor was held in Afghanistan, March
